Admit it! You are addicted to watching witches on Instagram, endlessly scroll through their beautiful altars, rituals, and spiritual tools while romanticizing adding all those things to your own craft.
Oh, and what about those YouTubers who rant and rave over their favorite product, getting you so hype about going to your local botanica to prep for a ritual. But when you get there or when you click the link, reality sets in. Inflation is real out in these streets.
What a disappointment! Here is your favorite influencer suggesting their favorite essential oil, and it is a 1-ounce bottle for $40, and of course, your craft calls for three. The practice can truly rack up which can be discouraging to those just starting their intentional work.
Never fret there is always a solution: dupes. It seems like every industry has its own version of a dupe, but I rarely see people speak on magickal dupes that can aid in your spiritual practice. My intentions are to make Magickal Dupes a series to aid indigos in their own craft because magick should be accessible to all!
For clarity, a dupe is a cheaper product that can serve as a substitute for a more expensive product. Now, of course, price isn’t always the driving motivation for choosing a dupe, sometimes, you may not have the time to go to the spiritual shop, or maybe by the time you get off work they are closed; whatever the reason today’s dupe comes in clutch.
Today, I wanted to speak on my very favorite dupe. Introducing the magick of extracts!
Yes, extract. You probably have a vanilla extract chilling in your kitchen cabinet right now. It is commonly used in baking, smoothies, and drinks, but you probably never thought to add it to your baths, floor washes, and candles. The extract is the perfect dupe for essential oils and in certain instances even colognes.
When selecting your extract, you want to make sure it is a pure extract and not an imitation. The reason for this is that pure extract typically has the herb’s oil in it. This is what makes this dupe so amazing, you are still getting the spiritual properties of the oil with a little additive. The additives are my favorite part, the extract also has alcohol in it, and if you have a basic understanding of alchemy, you know that alcohol represents spirit while oil represents the soul.
This also makes extracts excellent when you are running low on spiritual colognes.
The true magick of the extract is that it acts as an amplifier of the herb’s innerG. The presence of both alcohol and oil directly translates to amplification on a spiritual and solular level. At that point, all your baths, candles, or washes would be missing is salt to complete the holy trinity (prima materia) and ground in the intentions. And when these 3 make 1, you have a craft in balance that is also based on the ‘369 principle’.
With this dupe, what’s not to love? It is honestly a no-brainer and an easy remedy if you looking for a quick solution or working with limited resources.
