Shadows at Home

beige wall

Shadows cast long,

It’s time to come home yet the bed is empty beside me, and father time has tired me.

All alone except the hallway light casting shadows

No one’s home just the ticking clock.

The clock is the only sound I swore you’d be home by now.

I fall into a slumber as the text hit my number,

Stating that you won’t be making it home.

The hole in my heart is casting shadows into feelings and emotions that aren’t known.

My body no longer feels like home so I become a shadow.

When you never came home, my home became the shadow

Of the love, I’ll no longer know.
